Okay, So I’ve been tagged by one of my fellow Starting With Marketing students and friend, CuzinTim!
I’ve read Huddson’s and CuzinTim’s Posts.
It is not going to be easy, but here goes:
1. Be Happy! Life is too short to be a GRUMP! Remember, there is always someone who has it worse than you!
2. I’m very outspoken! You either like me or you don’t ! But, at least, I let you know where I’m coming from!
3. I have always had a very vivid imagination!
4. I went to parochial school for 9 and1/2 years. I heard so much mention of Hell and Satan, that once, when I was in grade school and went to bed for the night, I woke up from a nightmare, scared to death and claimed I had, in my sleep, come face to face with Satan, himself.
5. When I was very young, I went through a phase of wanting to be a doctor. I would sit out on the fire hydrant in front of my grandmother’s with my white doctor’s shirt on and my play stethoscope, reflex hammer and thermometer and give people a checkup as they walked by.
6. Now, this will date me, for sure! There used to be a show on TV called Gunsmoke, with James Arness, as Matt Dillon. He played either a sheriff or a US marshall in the days of the Wild West in the the western US. I think I was about 5 or 6 at the time. I wanted to be Matt Dillon so badly, that I used to dress up like a cowboy and my mom says I insisted that everybody call me Matt. She said I would only answer to that name, for a long time. Then, I actually got to meet James Arness, when he came to a local shopping center! How cool is that?
7. I love animals! I have almost always had animals. Growing up we had: dogs, cats, birds, turtles, hamsters, lizards, and snakes. Even now, I have a Yellow Lab, a Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot and a Cockatiel. I actually feel closer to animals than I often do to people, especially dogs. Think about it! Dogs live in the moment and have no agenda! And the best part about them is they give you unconditional love!
8. Having grown up in southern California, and always having been close to the ocean, being near it is when I am happiest and most at ease. I couldn’t live inland. I lived in the Sierra Nevada mountains for a little over a year. As beautiful as it is there, I always missed the ocean.
9. When I lived in the Sierra Nevada I worked for the Department of Forestry. Part of our job was to fight forest fires! The worst fire I ever had to fight was a crown-fire southwest of Lake Tahoe. At one point, my crew and I were nearly surrounded by flames. Our crew chief, a man with many years experience, was keeping an eye on the developing situation, while we tried desperately to clear debris from the forest floor. Suddenly, he stiffened and said “Get your stuff and follow me!” Dude, I was ready to get out of there, ten minutes before that! We barely got to a clear and relatively safe area, when the wind shifted. Where we had just been, was completely engulfed in flames! Had we not moved, I would not be sharing this with you right now! Moral of this story: Having narrowly escaped death, I gained a new perspective on life!
10. I love to travel! Been to the Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Sierra Nevada, Baja California, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton, Mount Rushmore, Bay of Fundy, Niagara Falls. In the mid-seventies, when you could still hitchhike, I hitched from San Diego, CA, up through Oregon and Washington and all across Canada to Saint John, Newfoundland. On the way back, I passed in and out of Canada and through the northern tier of US states. That was a cool trip! I was gone for 4 and1/2 months.
11. I’m somewhat of an adrenaline junkie! I like doing things that a lot of others would consider too scary or risky!
12. Life is Short! Go for the Gusto! Experience ALL it has to Offer!
13. I love to surf! Been doing that now, for 40 years. Talk about being close to nature and God! At least, at my favorite spot! In the past there have been days when I was alone or nearly alone and the sounds you hear are mostly natural. The water, mostly and the wind. Out there, I have gotten to see and experience things most people couldn’t even imagine.
14. My brother and I used to have a 16′ Hobie Cat (catamaran sailboat). I used to love to see how long I could sail that boat with the sails and mast nearly parallel to the surface of the water in Mission Bay, in San Diego.
15. I love downhill skiing. My daughter and I have gone every year since she was in the fourth grade. She is now 23. She snowboards and I ski, using snowblades, 99cm shorties and no friggin’ poles. They’re a blast! I love to show off on them and do crazy stuff like 360s and small jumps. What a great way to bond with your kids. Find something you both like and do it together, year after year. She surfs with me sometimes, too!
16. When my daughter was around 14, we were white-water rafting class 3 and 4 rapids on the Kern River, in Central California. The air was about 85 degrees F, or about 29 degrees C. The water was about 40 to 50 degrees F, or about 5 to 10 degrees C. Anyway, as we went over one of the rapids, my daughter, who was right behind me in the boat, fell in and disappeared. We felt her go under the raft. Talk about scary! I was frantic! She soon surfaced and we were able to get her back aboard before she got too hypothermic. While she was under the water, I just kept thinking what was I going to tell my wife about losing our beautiful child! Thank God, that one turned out all right! Whew!!
17. Couple things on my bucket list! Skydiving and climbing up the backside of Half Dome in Yosemite Valley! Never heard of Half Dome? I encourage you to Google it! It’s an immense Granite outcrop left behind by the glaciation of Yosemite Valley.
18. I’m mechanically inclined. I have had several ideas for devices of one sort or another. Usually, though, I never seem to act on them. Take, for example, when they started advertising ‘the club’. It is an anti-theft devise that you attach to the steering wheel of your automobile to keep someone from stealing it. Thieves began sawing peoples’ steering wheels and removing the club and taking the car, anyway! So I said to myself, why not make a device that attaches to the brake or clutch pedal, making it inoperable. Nobody is going to saw off a pedal! That would be stupid and self-defeating! Before I took action, someone else did. I paid about $50.00 dollars for one, for my truck. Damn, I could have made some serious cash for that one!
19. I have a strong belief in the power of the subconscious! A perfect example: Years ago, when I decided to get into Land Surveying, I took several semesters of college Math, at night, to prepare. One late night, working on my Algebra homework, I remember having a problem that I tried and tried and just couldn’t get the answer. I was really tired at the time, and fell asleep, sitting at my desk. A little while later, when I awoke, I had the answer. While I was asleep, my subconscious mind went to work on the problem and solved it for me! Weird, how that works!
20. Do you swear at your computer? I have to admit, I’m guilty of that myself ! It’s kind of weird, though! Most, if not all the time, the reason something is wrong always comes back to GIGO. Garbage In, Garbage Out! The computer is working just fine! I’m the one who messed up!
21. I’m very distractable! Sometimes it makes it difficult to get started on a task that urgently needs attention! There always seems to be just one more little task begging for my attention, that keeps pulling me away from the task at hand.
22. Years ago, I was working with a couple of guys that both grew up in the Central Valley of California and apparently were used to eating spicy foods. One day at lunch, they opened a rather large can of jalapeno peppers and were eating them like candy, one after the other. Up until that time, I had never had anything very spicy, in my life. They asked me if I would like to try a jalapeno! I was game! I said sure! I took one, bit off a good-sized piece and instantly my nose was running and I swear to this day, tears literally squirted from my eyes. I couldn’t speak! I could hardly breathe! I felt like someone had just lit my tongue on fire! The best part, looking back on this hellatious episode was that my two companions were laughing so hard that I thought they were going to fall out of the truck.
23. I love Mexican food! If it’s nice and spicy hot, that’s all the better! Remember, my first jalapeno was a long time ago. I can and do eat and enjoy them, now! In fact, one of my favorite Mexican eateries, a place called Jorge’s, here in Encinitas, serves up their food with Habenero salsa. Now, that is some hot stuff! Jalapenos check in at around 3000 Scoville units. Habeneros are around 300,000 Scoville units. When I add a full container of their salsa to their excellent chicken soup, my lips are often burning, by the time I have eaten the soup.
24. I love Chinese and Thai food, also! Italian, you bet! French, oui! German, not so much! No offense to the Germans. As far as that goes, from what I’ve heard about English food, probably not. Sorry guys! Blood pudding? Cajun,Yeah baby!, Barbecue, Oh Yeah,Steak and Chicken and Baby-back Ribs! Seafood, What’s not to like about: New England Clam Chowder, Lobster and Broiled Swordfish and there’s always, again,on the Mexican side, Ceviche and Fish Tacos! Can’t say I don’t like to eat!
25. I’m definitely a people person! I like talking to people! I like to sit and watch people, like in a busy place, where you see all kinds of people. Airport, the zoo, train station, anyplace where you’ll find a diverse group passing by. I also like helping people.
Well, I didn’t think I could come up with 25 things to say about myself! I surprised myself! I did it! Hopefully, you will find my stories interesting! Let me know! Leave a post! I’d love to know what you think!
Mike
Now, who am I going to tag??? And the candidates are: Trudi Harrison, Roger Neumann, Kerie Hinchliffe, Teddy Kasche and Malcom McKinnell

Christiane,
Thanks for stopping by.
What breed are your dogs?
I have a yellow lab.
Mike
Jed,
Thanks for the kind words. Been away from this for a while. Will work on some new posts.
Mike
I found your site on yahoo and thought I would drop by and say hey. I like the way your blog is set up. I¡¯ll come back later. I have to go walk my dog right now and take them to potty.
Hello. Initial I want to say that I really like your website, just observed it last week but I’ve been following it ever since then.
I seem to come to an agreement with most of your ideas and opinions and this post is no different. absolutely agree with you.
Thank you for any excellent web site and I hope you maintain up the great operate. If you do I will continue to read it.
Possess a excellent evening.
Joann,
Thanks for the great comment.
Yeah, I sometimes think those nuns were scarier than the whole idea of Satan, himself.
Glad you got a laugh out of #20.
Animals, Hell yes, we need to save the planet for them. They, in many ways, are here for us to learn from. Gotta love them!
Yes, I am enjoying Rob’s course. Looking forward to learning how to make money with articles. Should be cool, eh?
Mike
Hi Mike,
What a great list, I can relate to quite a few of them. I too went to parocial school, and I had many terrible dreams about going to hell…what is that all about? We must have had some of the same nuns drilling some really intense stuff into our ‘holy little brains’, huh?
Number 20 is hilarious-I think that most of us who use computers on a daily basis can certainly identify with you on that one!
I’m with you 100% on animals providing you with unconditional love, I have NEVER come across a dog that I didn’t like…hmmmm! Too bad that I can’t say the same for the human race.
I am also a part of Rob’s class…are you enjoying it as much as I am? Rob is one heck of a guy(even though he is just a ‘pup’) & I believe that he will be able to help us achieve our dreams.
Take care, Mike-I wish you the very best!

Hey Gene,
Susanville sounds like a beautiful place. I have spent a lot of time in the Sierra. Back when I was a firefighter, we spent a week on a huge forest fire in Lassen. That is about as close as I have been to Susanville. I love the mountains, I just love the ocean, more. Just curious, any ski resorts in Lassen? Also, do you ski/snowboard? You are not that far from Tahoe. Anyway, thanks for your comment.
Mike
Hey Trudi,
Thanks for the kind words! I am glad to hear that you decided to go for it! Looking forward to your 25 things.
Mike
Hi Michael,
Great list, I am a bit more conservative when it comes to adrenalin these days.
I also have more of a love for mountains. We I gres up in So. Cal. (Near Thomas as a matter of fact). Lived in the middle of a forest (Nevada City, CA) and wound up on the eastern slope/high desert area of the Sierras (susanville, CA).
I do love the coast too. But more Northern. A+ on Mexican food, but Pizza is good too.
Agreed on animals (Esp dogs) but wwe decided not to have any more. Get too attached, just about broke my heart when we had to have our dog put down. But we enjoy watching the deer and rabbits wander though out property.

Thanks for visiting and commenting! Pasadena, eh? Hope you weren’t too close to the big fire that was recently in your area.
Could be worse you know! You could live in Tuscon, AZ!
Mike
Hey Mike:
That’s a beautiful list of 25! A lot of your items resound with me, but I’m definitely less daring than you.
Enjoying SoCal, and I can definitely relate to your ocean affinity (I’m not a surfer, and would love to be a bit closer than Pasadena…)
Cheers

Huddson,
Thanks! Yes life is too short so, you’ve got to enjoy every moment, eat lots of Mexican food, and listen to the birds sing! By the way, in my house it’s a toss-up as to who is more noisy. Sometimes it is the Cockatiel and sometimes it is the Parrot!
But,it is also nice to feel the unconditional love of your animals and be grateful for it!
Mike
Hey Mike,
Well done and thanks for letting this 25things about you go viral!! It’s a great way to get to know more about each other.
#1 is surely my favourite. I’m glad you put it first!! Life is definitely too short….I learned this from my little dog…..and it’s so true that someone out there is worse than us.
You love Mexican food like Lisa?? I love taco although you always make a mess when the taco shell breaks and the sauce goes everywhere….lol….it’s kinna fun to start licking.
I used to have a couple cockatiels too but they sang all the time and I had to give them away…..great little creatures with unconditional love to give though.

Marcus,
Thanks Bro! Yeah, sometimes these damned things can really get you going(computers, that is)! I’m off to get in a bike ride before it gets dark. Was going surfing, but all the cams show knee-high and below. Not worth the effort! I’ll check your site later tonight and leave a comment. This 25 things is great!
Later,
Mike
Hey Micheal
I am loving these 25 things about you, I did mine a while back.
Ha loving number 20, I have lost count on the amount of times I have wanted to pick the dam computer up and chuck it outta the window.

Tom,
If you enjoy cold and wet, that’s great! You can have it. I like to snow ski for a week or so and freeze my arse off. But, then I leave and come back to my mild climate and I’m good to go! We do sometimes get hot here and then it’s gone. Places like Palm Springs, Las Vegas and Phoenix are in the desert. Now that is some hot weather, for months at a time. Their temps in the summertime can be in the 90s to 120s. A friend of mine was working in Liberia and he said it got up to 150. It will NEVER be that hot here, ever.
Anyway, I’ll let you know just how hot it gets in about a week and a half, when it’s over. My bet is it won’t getter any hotter here, where I live, than the range I gave you in my last comment.
Mike
Mike i just heard there will be record breaking temps in s California this weekend.
tom
Tom,
Thanks! As far as the weather, here at the coast, we very rarely see temperatures, even in the hottest months, anywhere near that high! Summertime highs where I live range from hi 60s to low 90s, or in Celsius that would be 20 to about 35. It is mostly pleasant here.
Trips like the one I mentioned help you to grow as a person. Thanks for noticing, I do try to live life to the fullest!
Mike
Hi mike,it is always interesting taking a glimpse into other peoples lives.
Oh by the way thanks for pop-in over to my resurrected blog, still not 100% with it but getting there.
You mention that you live in southern California which for me is interesting, because i listen to a lot of your talk radio
mainly KABC790.It makes me smile when i hear the weather guy say that it’s 110 in the shade.
Sometimes living in cold damp Britain is not so bad Ha Ha.
With all that traveling you have done, seems like you really did take something from that near death experience.
Live life to the full i guess is your motto.
Tom
Hey Lisa,
Thanks! Smoking and beating people up?
Whoa! You were a wild child! I’m headed over to your blog to see your 25 things.
Mike
Hey Mike!! You’re right, Mexican food in So Cali is the best!! Especially the little taco stands!

You were such a playful kid! I was too busy smoking and beating people up!! OOPS! Maybe I shouldn’t tell THAT one!!
Ah! The 70′s…..hippies, long hair, and bell bottoms. I was too young back then to do anything note worthy, but hiking across the country sounds like fun!
Glad you shared!

Thank you much for the great comment!
Be fun to have you come out and visit!
I think you’d really enjoy it, here!
Like I said in my post, I couldn’t handle being away from the ocean.

Hi Mike,
Wow! faboulous post.
This 25 things has really opened things up and I think it’s so much easier for AJ students to post comments.
I’m landlocked in Coventry, which is right in the middle of England. I’d love to visit California and the Ocean.
It seems to present so many outdoor activities.
Keep in touch,

Mike
PS How do I put a tilde over a letter?
Roger,
Hey, thanks and no I didn’t get writer’s cramp! LOL!!!
Like to talk with you about skydiving.
You lucky guy, that does look like a good resource that you got for free! Trying to keep my costs to a minimum! Unemployment doesn’t cover a lot these days!
Your cover page! How big is it in pixels? Have you tried looking at the source code? Depending on how big it is and how small you want to make it you might be able to manipulate the number of pixels for height and width w/out too much distortion. Or, there are some other things we can do. Let me know if I can be of further assist.
Mike
Hey Mike,
Love your list. Got an issue with #6 in that I know Gunsmoke and yeah that makes me 48 yrs old.
Not sure about the skydiving, but would love to hanglide over the Rockies.
Love traveling too.
Cheers,
Rob

Hey Mike
Wow, what a list you have. Did you get writer’s cramp from all of that. I have done one of the things you have in your bucket list. I have 127 jumps, skydiving, and quit when it got too expensive. Speaking of which, I have to agree with you on why spend money when we have tools that are free and work well. The tool I used was free to me also.
My book will be ready for people to download when I can figure out how to get the cover page the right size to be placed on my blog. Right now it is too big!
Gotta leave
Roger
Go out and make it a successful day!
Cuzin Tim,
Thanks for tagging me! It took me all day to come up with those 25 things! At first, I didn’t think I could do it! It was kinda fun, really! Thanks, too, for actually reading all my short stories.
As far as the Mexican food here, you’re right! I’ve tried it in a lot of different places and it’s just not as good as in LA and SD counties!
Mike
Hey Michael glad i tagged you. Love your reasoning for liking dogs.
Doesn’t it suck when you sit o n a great idea and someone else takes action on it? An ex girlfriend used to use a mini flashlight to navigate in her purse and presto my purse w/ light creation was conceived then about a year and a half later I seen a woman on tv selling them :/ Lesson learned LOL
Also lucky dog living in Cali most of your life… The Mexican food don’t get much more authentic than that!
